A person who laced treats with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offences against two boys aged between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight youngsters and a grown-up became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from that region, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

However, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was held in detention before a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, handling the case, outlined the criminal behavior to the court.

She said his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer camp which he operated.

Ruben played a "candy game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings the man had played this game with the boys "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the next day.

She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in summer 2025.

The prosecutor continued: "This year his family member had concerns about the situation, justifiably.

"They resolved" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC stated items including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were located, and his family member notified the police about his suspicions.

She explained the defendant proceeded to play the "sweet game" with six children that evening - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she added.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

The legal representative said the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the law enforcement again.

She stated the man then engaged in the "treat game" in a space of five children.
